Ian Ambler
Owner. Landscape Architect.
Ian holds a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Cornell University. He founded Ambler Design in 2002, driven by a passion to create and construct distinctive outdoor environments. Outside of work, Ian enjoys tending to his own garden, skiing during the winter months, and swimming and sailing in the summer.

Stacey Ambler
Administrator. Garden Designer.
Stacey is a Master Gardener, former Waldorf School teacher, and environmental educator. She holds training in environmental resource management, fine arts, and permaculture. Her expertise and passion for plants bring both artistic form and social function to our design work. In her spare time, Stacey enjoys paddling on a lake or nordic skiing across the hills of Vermont.

Albert Demag
Site Supervisor. Construction Manager.
Albert joined the Ambler Design team in 2009. He brings over 30 years of landscape construction experience and serves as the essential connection between design and construction in the field. Skilled in every aspect of the construction process, Albert can regularly be found guiding the transformation of seemingly chaotic project sites into beautifully crafted landscapes. He resides with his family in Wolcott.

Nick Chase
Construction Foreman. Senior Mason.
Nick joined Ambler Design in 2012 and brings over 25 years of experience to the team. His dedication to each project is evident, often putting in extra time and effort to complete his work for the day. Nick's patience and strong work ethic consistently ensure that tasks are completed thoroughly and promptly. He is a valuable asset to our team. Nick lives in Craftsbury with his girlfriend.

Luke Aupperlee
Truck Driver. Job Site Coordinator.
Luke joined Ambler Design in 2014. He drives our dump truck and plays a vital role in ensuring that various projects proceed without interruption. Luke is highly dependable, consistently making sure all crews have the materials and support they need exactly when needed. If we were to give an award for attendance, Luke would likely be the perennial winner. He lives in Morrisville with his girlfriend and their three cats.

Phil Phelps
Mechanic. Machine Operator.
Phil has been a member of Ambler Design since 2015. He brings 40+ years of experience in site supervision, heavy equipment operation and machine maintenance. Phil’s ability to fix or troubleshoot just about anything from a compactor to an excavator keeps our construction team running efficiently. Phil lives in Elmore with his wife and on weekends can be found restoring antique tractors or helping a neighbor with a construction project.

Colby Grant
Construction Foreman. Mason.
Colby joined Ambler Design in 2015 and has since become an integral member of the team. Over the years, he has expanded his expertise to include stone work and machine operation, demonstrating a versatile skill set. Known for his easygoing and friendly demeanor, Colby is a valued crew member who collaborates effectively with others and adapts to a variety of roles as needed. He resides with his daughter in a unique converted shipping container home located in Morrisville.

Erin Swift
Lead Gardener. Grower.
Erin joined Ambler Design in 2018 as our Lead Gardener and Grower. With a deep and comprehensive knowledge of horticulture, her passion for plants is evident in every aspect of her work. Erin plays a key role in the planting design and installation phases across all of our projects, ensuring each space thrives both aesthetically and ecologically. Additionally, she oversees the operations of our wholesale nursery, maintaining the health and quality of our plant stock. Erin resides in Duxbury with her family.

Caleb Suddaby
Construction Foreman. Machine Operator.
Caleb joined Ambler Design in 2012. He brings a diverse skillset with interests spanning carpentry, maple sugaring, tree work, and machine operation. Known for his excellent communication skills and keen attention to detail, Caleb plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of our landscape projects. Outside of work, he enjoys mountain biking, hunting, and skiing. Remarkably, he is also dedicating his spare time to building his own house. Caleb lives in Elmore with his wife and three children.

Mandy Bard
Office Manager. Gardener.
Mandy joined Ambler Design in 2023 and quickly became an essential part of the team. She plays a crucial role both in the office, skillfully managing a wide range of tasks, and as one of our dedicated gardeners, bringing care and attention to our green spaces. Her enthusiasm and versatility make her a vital contributor to our daily operations. Outside of work, Mandy enjoys running along the scenic back roads of Vermont and practicing yoga to stay balanced and energized.
